As y'all know, the weather has been ridiculously fuh-reezing- apparently it's the coldest winter in Korea for the past 30 years! While (most of) us humans have cozy homes to hibernate in during these months, the animals at the Asan Shelter are unfortunately not so lucky. Infact, I recently learned that some of the dogs are literally freezing to death due to a shortage of dog houses and blankets. :( Just thinking about those doggies shivering away breaks my heart. As a result, Kia (a vegan baker-extraordinaire) and myself are teaming up to do a 100% vegan bake sale fundraiser to help support the shelter.
For those of you who don't know, Kia is a fellow vegan and has participated in several bake sales for Animal Rescue Korea. She is famous for her amazing salted caramel pecan bars, blondies, and pumpkin brownies to name a few. You do not want to miss this opportunity to try her goodies! Oh, and yours truly will also be baking up a storm~ The menu is tentative and subject to change, but here's a sneak preview of the goodies that Kia and I plan on having:
Zucchini nut bread
Lemon pound cake
Banana walnut & choco muffins
Mexican hot chocolate snickerdoodles
Cinnamon sugar shortbread
Salted caramel pecan bars
Gingerbread biscotti
Blondies/brownies
Minju at Cafe Harunohee has graciously allowed us to have the bake sale at her coffee shop, and will also be cooking delicious, totally vegan Japanese curry for those of you who are hungry for a warm, comforting meal. Seriously, what better way to spend your Saturday afternoon, filling up on a cruelty-free lunch, sippin' on a soy pumpkin latte, and munching on vegan baked goodies?
Oh, and while you're there, you can also pass time by flipping through some old issues of VegNews and Runner's World. Minju has let me stock the cafe with some of my fave magazines, just for your enjoyment. :)
I hope you can make it~ However, even if you cannot come, please go to www.AnimalRescueKorea.org and consider making a donation, sending them some used blankets, or even fostering a dog or cat during these winter months. You could really safe a life!
